Podcasts – a decent alternative to watching golf on the telly!

As an avid watcher of live golf on TV the last two and a half months have been challenging to say the least. The glass of wine is still there as is all the associated badness like crisps and chocolate but with no live golf and an addiction to the sport to satisfy, I have found a pretty decent alternative, Podcasts.

There are various ones available but my favourite by far would have to be the McKellar Golf Podcast which features experienced golf journalists Lawrence Donegan and John Huggan interviewing a personality from the world of golf. Over the past couple of months they have interviewed players such as Rory McIlroy and Darren Clarke and also legendary coach Pete Cowen. The interviews themselves give a rare and detailed insight into what makes certain players tick and how they have reached the pinnacle of the sport.

However the best episode in my opinion is the one featuring Pete Cowen. Cowen comes across as a down to earth type of a guy who has to deal with a variety of different characters in a bid to make them better golfers. The one word that he repeats time and again is attitude. Without the right attitude you cannot succeed. Whether it be to practice, train or perform under pressure. Cowen details how a change in attitude turned Brooks Koepka into a four time major champion.

With live golf returning to our screens next week , we should hopefully see Koepka in action but if you’re a bit bored between now and then pay McKellar a visit.
