Following two years of product development, testing prototypes and re-imagining forgiveness levels and distance off the tee, from the fairway and out of the rough, the result is a set of irons that will help the game-improver to break his target score, without breaking the bank. The STR40 are available in graphite at £349 (£499 RRP) and in steel at £249 (£399 RRP). Both sets are a seven-club configuration, from 5-iron through to Sand Wedge, right-hand only.

The R&D team at MD Golf looked carefully at how they could improve on the previous STR30 irons, which were firm favourites of golfers all over the world. During those 24 months of development and innovation, engineers utilised an oversize cavity head design in the STR40 irons that allows weight to be pulled to the periphery of the iron for maximum forgiveness on off-centre ball strikes.

The irons feature a centre of gravity that has been positioned low and deep in the clubhead, with strong lofts in each club in order to help deliver a towering, powerful ball flight for incredible distance. The combination of these technologies makes the STR40 irons the longest and most forgiving in MD’s rich history of decorated products.

Founded by Northern Irish entrepreneurs Michael Morton and David Millsopp in 1999, MD Golf products were available in pro shops and multiple golf retailers until relatively recently when the founders made the bold step of transforming the UK business into a slick online, direct-to-consumer operation. The brand also has a global presence with distribution in Malaysia, South Africa, Australia and in the EU. This allows the owners to buy in bulk at low cost and service these markets as well as the UK online business. This new strategy means golfers can buy incredible products at up to 50% off a standard RRP.
